May is Aging Life Care Month, and it’s important to Springpoint at Home that our clients and the public understand what sets Aging Life Care Advisor™ professionals apart. Bringing someone into the life of an older adult can be problematic, especially if the person you bring into the home does not have the ability to help them age well.

Springpoint at Home is proud to have a team of Aging Life Care Advisors ™ from a variety of backgrounds, from social work and gerontology to nursing and therapeutic recreation. The commitment to the values and ethical code of conduct embodied by the Aging Life Care Association® (ALCA) and its Aging Life Care Advisors ™ comes from our Director of Home Care and Management, Annette Murphy, MSW, LSW, C-ASWCM.

Membership in ALCA gives our Aging Life Care Advisors ™ professional benchmarks to continue to strive and learn new resources and new ways of providing services in our complex and ever-changing landscape of older adult care. The peer reviews support and standards of excellence we adhere to are vital to professional growth and guidance.

As a Springpoint at Home team, participation in ALCA makes collective problem-solving stronger as everyone takes advantage of various educational opportunities. These opportunities help the team to think in new ways and stay energized with the work. Having a full team of Aging Life Care Advisors ™ sets us apart from other firms that might not have made this commitment. In addition, we have staff working toward a higher certification and membership level.

Truly, ALCA is the ‘gold standard’ in care management. Informed customers can be assured that staff are working with the strength of a team, continuously educating themselves in the unique challenges and issues of geriatric care management, with a strong organization behind their methods and work.

Annette has served as co-president of the NJ ALCA and is currently serving on the National Board of Directors. Her passion for this work was fostered by some of the most dynamic and amazing women mentors who invited Annette into their leadership, first as secretary, then as co-president and now to the National Board. As Annette will tell you, when she sees something that needs to be done, she will jump in as she can. After all, “If not me, then who?”

Giving back through ALCA has brought Annette to personal friendships and mentors, endless resources and invaluable encouragement to persevere in really tough times. These personal and educational opportunities have fueled her energy to mentor others and give back. “I would not be in the leadership roles I am in now, have met such amazing clients and colleagues, and been able to travel to some fantastic conferences/meetings if I had not been in this organization.”

“This work is fulfilling personally because you are able to be on some challenging journeys with clients and fellow teammates. It is rewarding to make a situation or a person’s life just a bit better with perseverance, heart and knowledge. It cannot be tackled alone. It takes this type of professional collaboration and support.” Annette Murphy
