During this busy holiday season, we take time to celebrate the diversity of our Springpoint at Home team.
Several holidays observed during this time of year – Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, just to name a few – are as diverse as the people who celebrate them. Along with traditional food, fun, and the important religious meanings associated with them, these celebrations bring light into our lives, helping to push away the darkness found in these shorter days.
Springpoint at Home’s caregiver staff is as diverse as the holidays themselves. Many come from countries located in West Africa, like Ghana and Liberia. Others come from countries in the Caribbean, such as Jamaica and Haiti. Like these beautiful celebrations, their work is based on love, compassion, and faith – and this is because our staff believes in the dignity of our older adults. This belief infuses their work as they treat clients like members of their own family.
We are delighted that these members of our dedicated team are able to provide light and compassion to the lives of our clients year round. We are grateful and proud when a family member or friend tells us about our employees’ commitment and the love they bring to their work.
Here is just one example from someone who has observed the work of Ruth Kiawu.
“Ruth Kiawu provides live-in support for one of our Independent Living residents at Meadow Lakes [a Springpoint Life Plan Community]. Our circle of her friends would like to acknowledge the professionalism and care provided by Ms. Kiawu, who clearly goes above and beyond to make a difference in her life.”
She no longer has access to many of the activities she once enjoyed. When Ruth noticed that this resident was attracted to the sounds of Chin Yun rehearsals in the Meeting Room on Saturdays, she began to take her to listen in on rehearsals. She supported her in singing with the group and, to our surprise, she sang on stage with the group on [a recent] Saturday, to the joy of the choral group and her friends, including myself. Our friend’s short-term memory is limited, but the joy in her face that night was beautiful to see. It warmed the hearts of all those present.
Ruth has been attentive to so many details. Realizing that our friend had no family for Thanksgiving, Ruth made sure she had dinner plans, so she could pass on that information to the aide on duty for Thanksgiving.”
I hope that Springpoint at Home appreciates Ruth. We do!”
